ask me any questions they wanted.
most were pretty typical, like what's your favorite food
and color and such... one boy asked what my favorite word was?
i told them bumbershoot... they didn't know what that meant.
so i told them it was umbrella. when they went out to recess
i heard a girl say, "too bad i forgot my bumbershoot today!" best.
i told them i loved to read. this one girl was totally enthralled
that even "old" people like to read a lot. (guess i really am old.. haa)
she asked me why i liked to read. i hadn't really thought about
the answer to this before, but it was easy to come up with
an answer on the spot. that's how much i love reading.
i took them to library. that was an adventure.
trying to help them pick out books was crazy. this one boy
was so intent on explaining to me the difference between
him and a t-rex and even laid down in this huge book to show
he was practically the same size as his claws. (life size
representations in this book... so cool!)
then there is the boy in the skeleton shirt that tried to convince
me his leg was broken last week. and there's the girl that
owns the classroom and everyone knows it. she was addicted
to her cowboy boots today. of course there's always the boys who tell
stories about hunting and deer antlers on the wall.
we are definitely in hyrum. one boy is moving to switzerland
and was telling me all kinds of things about it. he also told me
he's going to do a report on south america because he's such an
advanced reader he doesn't have a group during group time.
he needs something "to keep his mind alert and occupied."
such a vocabulary these students already know!
then we got talking about chocolate-covered graham crackers
and i think i jumped up in all their books when they found out
that those and macaroni and cheese are my favorite after school snacks.
2nd grade is the greatest. i wish i could take a recorder around
just to capture all the funny things these little ones say!
